Captain Eugene Gruhlke grew up with salt in his veins and a rod in his hands. Raised near the rugged Pacific shoreline, his passion for fishing began at an early age, inspired by time spent with his father chasing salmon runs and learning the art of crabbing on the Oregon Coast. Over the years, what started as a weekend hobby turned into a lifelong pursuit of mastering the waters and giving others the chance to fall in love with the ocean, just like he did. Eugene’s approachable nature and love for teaching make him not just a captain, but a friend to every guest who steps aboard. With decades of experience navigating Oregon’s dynamic marine environment, Captain Eugene has earned a reputation as one of the most reliable and skilled Oregon Coast fishing guides. He’s a U.S. Coast Guard-certified captain who prioritizes safety above all else, ensuring every charter is conducted with professionalism, attentiveness, and expert care. Whether you're joining him for deep sea fishing in the Oregon Coast or a more relaxed nearshore outing, you can count on Eugene to put you on the fish and help you make the most of your trip. He’s known for running some of the most family-friendly fishing charters in Oregon, always ready with a helpful hand, a joke, and the patience to teach newcomers the ropes. Beyond the boat, Captain Eugene is deeply involved in local conservation efforts and community outreach programs focused on sustainable fishing practices. He participates in coastal clean-ups, youth angling events, and advocates for responsible harvesting to protect the Oregon fishery for future generations. He’s also been featured in regional fishing reports for his consistently productive trips and sharp understanding of seasonal fish behavior. What truly sets Eugene apart is his dedication—not just to catching fish, but to creating an unforgettable experience rooted in respect for the ocean and the people who fish it. Aboard the 2nd Chance, you may pursue salmon or fish the Oregon Coast’s productive waters for rockfish and lingcod. With no other parties onboard, beginners can receive clear, step-by-step instruction while experienced anglers have more direct access to the crew’s guidance. Bait, tackle, and fishing equipment are provided, allowing everyone to participate without bringing their own setup. This private format creates a more relaxed atmosphere, gives your group room to fish together, and keeps the crew’s attention focused on your day. Early reservations are recommended, particularly during the area’s most popular fishing months.

Your Private Oregon Coast Fishing Day

Head beyond the coastline on a shared outing focused on fishing Oregon’s deeper and more productive waters. Depending on the opportunity, the crew may guide guests in targeting salmon, rockfish, and lingcod while providing personal instruction throughout the day. When weather and ocean conditions allow, Dungeness crab pots may also be set, adding another possible catch to the experience. The limited number of anglers onboard helps everyone receive hands-on support, whether they are learning how to use the equipment or already have time on the water. Bait and tackle are provided, so guests can arrive ready to fish without preparing their own setup. This per-person option makes offshore fishing accessible without reserving the entire boat. Early booking is recommended during peak season.

Susan K

Pacific Odyssey Oregon Coast Deep-Water Fishing Run

Turn an Oregon Coast outing into a fishing day shared only with the people you bring. This private charter heads offshore in search of salmon before working productive areas for rockfish and lingcod, giving your group the chance to experience different styles of action in one trip. If sea conditions cooperate, pulling Dungeness crab pots can add another enjoyable part to the day. The crew handles the preparation and provides bait, tackle, and fishing equipment, along with as much instruction as each guest needs. New anglers can learn without feeling rushed, while regular fishermen can spend more time concentrating on the water. With the boat reserved exclusively for your party, families and small groups can fish together, set their own rhythm, and enjoy dedicated support throughout the trip. Early reservations are recommended.

The Oregon Coast Offshore Boat Is All Yours

Time your day on the Oregon Coast around the seasonal migration, when Chinook move through productive coastal waters. This shared charter gives solo anglers, families, and smaller parties the chance to experience salmon fishing without booking a private boat. Limited spots allow the crew to work closely with each guest, from showing first-timers how to handle the equipment to helping experienced anglers stay ready when a fish takes the line. Rods, bait, and tackle are supplied, removing the need to prepare or bring a personal setup. The atmosphere remains organized but welcoming, with everyone sharing the anticipation and action of the salmon run. It is an approachable way to pursue two of the coast’s most prized seasonal fish while receiving personal guidance throughout the trip.

Meet Oregon’s Salmon Run at the Coast

Experience one of the Oregon Coast’s defining fishing seasons with the boat reserved exclusively for the people you bring. As Chinook move through coastal waters, the crew helps your group make the most of the available opportunities while keeping the pace comfortable and flexible. Beginners receive clear, hands-on instruction, while returning anglers can focus on the fishing without sharing crew attention with another party. Gear, bait, and tackle are included, allowing everyone to arrive prepared for the day without organizing a personal setup. The private format is well suited to families and small groups who want to enjoy the salmon run together in a more personal setting. Because these trips follow seasonal migration periods, booking early is recommended for guests hoping to secure a preferred date.

Oregon’s Salmon Run, Reserved for Your Crew

Enjoy two classic Oregon Coast activities in one shared outing, combining offshore fishing with the anticipation of hauling up Dungeness crab pots. The crew may guide guests in pursuing salmon, rockfish, and lingcod before checking the traps when ocean conditions make crabbing possible. Pulling a pot to see what is inside adds a hands-on moment that sets this trip apart from a fishing-only charter. Gear, bait, and tackle are provided, and the crew offers personal guidance so first-time anglers can participate comfortably alongside those with more experience. Limited space helps maintain an attentive and friendly atmosphere for solo guests, families, and small groups. Crabbing depends on the conditions and cannot be guaranteed. Early reservations are recommended during the Oregon Coast’s busier fishing and crabbing periods.

Blue Rockfish

Reel Them In, Then Pull the Crab Pots

Bring your favorite people together for a private outing that offers more than time behind a fishing rod. Your group can pursue salmon, rockfish, and lingcod, then add the fun of dropping and pulling Dungeness crab pots when ocean conditions allow. The combination creates variety throughout the day and gives everyone another hands-on way to take part. Because no other parties share the boat, the crew can match its guidance and pace to your group, helping newcomers learn comfortably while allowing experienced anglers to stay focused on the action. All required fishing gear, bait, and tackle are supplied, making preparation simple for families and small groups. The fishing and private use of the boat are central to the trip, while the crabbing portion remains dependent on suitable conditions.

Fish, Crab, and Keep the Boat to Yourselves

Join a shared Oregon Coast trip where everyone gets the chance to take part in setting baited crab pots, pulling them aboard, and seeing what they hold. This per-person option is ideal for solo guests, couples, families, or small groups who want a guided crabbing experience without reserving the entire boat. Space is limited to keep the outing comfortable and allow the crew to provide clear instruction and personal assistance throughout the process. All necessary gear and bait are supplied, so no previous crabbing experience or personal equipment is required. At the end of the outing, your catch is cleaned and prepared for you to take home. Guests will travel aboard either the 2nd Chance or Susan K with knowledgeable local guides leading the experience.Call the guide to confirm availability. Trip timing may vary based on guide scheduling and weather conditions.

2 hrs

Share the Boat, Pull Oregon Coast Crab Pots

Give the family a boat of its own for a day where children, beginners, and experienced anglers can enjoy the water together. The crew keeps the pace comfortable, provides patient instruction, and helps each guest participate according to their ability. Depending on the available fishing, your family may pursue salmon, rockfish, and lingcod along the Oregon Coast. When conditions permit, pulling Dungeness crab pots can add another hands-on activity for everyone to share. All fishing gear, bait, and tackle are provided, making it easier for parents to plan the outing without organizing equipment. Since no other parties are onboard, the experience can stay focused on your family rather than following a shared schedule. This welcoming private option is suitable for all ages, and early reservations are encouraged.
